Thank goodness for my PVR.

Due to my week-long date with a Mexican beach and some strawberry daiquiris, I didn’t catch Friday’s Season 2 premiere of Fashion Star until last night. The reality television competition follows 13 designers who vie to have their clothes purchased by retailers Macy’sSaks Fifth Avenue and Express. This time around, Edmonton has one of its own competing. Cassandra Hobbins, 30,  is the only Canadian on the show and I hope to follow her as the series progresses. Work it, girl.

You can check out the profile I wrote on her HERE.

As can be expected, Hobbins got the typical “eh” jokes when she told everyone she was Canadian. But she totally went along with it, remarking how she hopes to be hoisted to the heights of Justin Bieber and “that ‘Call Me Maybe’ chick” if she wins.

I’m not gonna lie: I thought Hobbins was going to go home this episode. She was the first one to be rejected by all three buyers, which meant she was on the chopping block. Boo. Her cropped moto jackets were cute, but they were criticized for being “too boxy” in the back. C’mon, Express! Your store just missed out.

Thankfully,  the celebrity mentors — Jessica Simpson, Nicole Ritchie and John Varvatos — loved Hobbins’ work. She was saved. Hallelujah.

I did like most of the garments showcased in the episode. My favourites were Amber’s mod flare dress, Brandon’s men’s hoodie jacket combo and Priscilla’s moonlight romper. You can check out all the photos HERE.

The next episode, titilatingly titled Sex Sells, airs March 15.

If you want to follow Hobbins on Twitter, her handle is @cass_hobbins. She’ll be live tweeting each episode.
